About this tool
The Crop tool lets you draw a rectangular region on your video and re-encode only that area. The output is a new video with the selected region as the full frame. All processing runs locally in your browser — no upload required.
Guide & tips
- Drag the crop handles on any of the 8 edges and corners to resize the selection. Drag the interior to move it.
- Use a preset aspect ratio (16:9, 9:16, 1:1) to lock the crop to a specific shape — useful for social media formats.
- 9:16 vertical crop is ideal for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts.
- 1:1 square crop works well for Instagram feed posts.
- The pixel coordinates shown (x, y, width, height) are the exact values passed to FFmpeg's crop filter.
- Cropping always re-encodes the video. Processing time depends on your CPU and the video length.
Frequently asked questions
Cropping always re-encodes the video, so there is a small quality cost. The CRF setting controls how much — lower CRF values (e.g. 18) preserve more quality at the expense of a larger file size. The default CRF 23 is a good balance.
Yes. After drawing a rough region you can type exact pixel values into the coordinate fields. Width and height are snapped to even numbers as required by H.264.
The audio track is copied without re-encoding, so there is no audio quality loss regardless of crop settings.
Yes. Set the aspect ratio to 16:9 and position the crop box over the part of the frame you want to keep. The output will be a standard widescreen video.
