About this tool
The Thumbnail tool extracts a single frame from your video at any timestamp and saves it as a JPG or PNG image. It uses FFmpeg's frame-seeking mode to jump directly to the requested time without decoding the entire file.
Guide & tips
- Enter the timestamp in HH:MM:SS format. For example 00:01:30 gives you the frame at 1 minute 30 seconds.
- JPG produces smaller files and is better for social media previews and email thumbnails.
- PNG is lossless — use it when you need a sharp screenshot of text or graphics in the video.
- For the sharpest result, choose a timestamp just after a scene cut where motion has settled.
- The extracted frame uses the full native resolution of the video — no upscaling or downscaling occurs.

Not with the Thumbnail tool — it extracts one frame per run. For batch frame extraction or creating a sprite sheet, use the Workflow Builder with a Convert node set to output GIF.

Fast motion or a scene transition at that exact frame will produce motion blur. Try a timestamp 0.1–0.5 seconds later when the action has settled.
